Reflect on my level of wellness; physically, psychologically, and spiritually...

Unit 3 assignment:

Based on my reflections, on a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being optimal wellbeing) I would rate my physical, spiritual and psychological well-being as follows:

A. Physical well-being I would rate myself as a 4. Unfortunately, for the past 4 years, I have been suffering with an auto immune deficiency disorder. I’ve been on quite a bit of medications but nothing has worked. This is one of the reasons why I was so interested in taking this class. I think this class is making a great difference in my psyche. Although I am still physically struggling, I am feeling better about my situation and a lot happier inside. I believe I am on the road to recovery. My goals in this area are to get healthy inside and outside and kick this disorder to the curb!

B. Spiritual well-being I would rate myself as an 8 and increasing on a daily basis, just from the beginning of this class as a matter of fact. I feel stronger in my beliefs, faith, with my connection with God and my inner spirit. I know that God exists and I make it through every day because of his presence in my life.

C. Psychological well-being I would rate myself as an 8, also increasing on a daily basis. I feel very positive in this aspect. As I am learning and studying, my classes are really helping me get through my own personal issues. I know I have grown in this area of my life in the past 4 years. I am not the person I was 4 years ago. I can proudly say I am a much stronger, determined woman.

My goals are to get healthy, both inside and outside, physically, spiritually and psychologically. I want to achieve a balance within all these areas. I want to alleviate myself of stress, anxiety and of especially negative thinking.

Activities and/or exercises that I can implement in my life to assist in moving toward my goals are to breathe, mediate, pray, relax and let go. Perhaps take up Yoga to help release my stress, tension and anxiety.

I found the relaxation exercise “The Crime of the Century” to be very relaxing and beneficial. I really enjoy the guided mediations. I found it very beneficial because it made me really concentrate on what the guide was saying. I was very relaxed during the exercise and I felt re-energized at the conclusion of the exercise.

Thanks for reading!

  1. I think that getting healthy inside and out is a great start for you. That would mean getting more dedicated at exercising, eating well, and being able to relieve stress and self-reflect on personal experiences and emotions whether negative or positive to be able to change the way our minds deal with them. I am a huge advocate for ensuring people get at least thirty minutes of exercise most days of the week. I personally feel more revived when I get at least that five to six days each week. The healthy eating part is my biggest battle, but can get kickstarted with motivational literature, such as Oxygen magazine, or Clean Eating magazine. I found a book called, "The Eat Clean Diet", by Tosca Reno, it is a great motivational piece of literature for anyone to read. It discusses the reasons we get low on energy, gain weight by crash diets, and have poor skin among other health issues we incur with age. Your goals are good ones to start with, I hope you obtain your goals at the pace you wish to.

    1. The Eat Clean Diet by Tosca Reno is probably one of the best guides out there for eating a healthy diet. Several years ago I picked up one of Tosca's first books and it has lead me on my path of nutrition and fitness since. Oxygen is also one of my favorite magazines. I have not missed an issue of either of these magazines in over 4 years. Both magazines would be a great place to start for a healthier eating and fitness.

  2. Hello Lori.

Excellent post this week. I find it hard to believe how anyone can be very low on a physical rating, but very high on a mental one. I am saying this in general not directly towards you. I know that getting in shape and out of shape does not occur over night and it all begins in the mind. Furthermore, we live inside of your bodies, so it must be very difficult mentally to look in a mirror each and everyday and see something we do not like. However, to be fair, I know life is not all about looks and there are a great deal of things out there that we can all find happiness in and this leads me to understand how a person can be in great spirits even when there physical appearance and well-being is not up to par.

  3. Lori,
I think you are definitely on the right path for achieving optimal health. I too like the idea of taking up yoga..I do yoga occasionally but I need to add it on a regular basis to my exercise regimen to help reduce my stress. I love chapter 5 in the Integral Health book this week. I believe these skills that are talked about here are exactly what is needed to help you (and myself) to reach your goals.

  4. Lori it sounds like you are on your way to meeting your goals. I think this is one assignment where everyone would say that they need improvement. I really think that is part of being whole, that we are always trying to improve ourselves in one or another but not getting that confused with beating ourselves up for not being what we think we should be or where we should be.
